Who We Are
STEM Community Day is designed to celebrate the wonders of STEM, while serving as the culminating event for the NNPS Governor’s Youth Development Academy (GYDA). GYDA is a year-long program of college, career, citizenship, and leadership experiences for sixty 9th and 10th grade NNPS students. The program was designed to expose students to Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) enrichment experiences they may not otherwise have had access to. To promote true youth development, GYDA students play an integral role in the planning and facilitation of this event—including leading hands on science lessons for attendees at STEM Community Day.
What We Do
STEM Community Day is a partnership between Newport News Public Schools (NNPS) and Christopher Newport University (CNU). The event will be held from 10am to 4pm on Saturday, June 4, 2016 and is FREE and open to the public.
