Who We Are

Mission- F.R.E.E. provides mobility related rehabilitation equipment to enhance independence and improve quality of life.

Cause- To collect, refurbish and recycle gently used medical mobility equipment and bathroom transfer aids, and provide it to people in the greater Williamsburg area who are uninsured and under insured and have no other means of obtaining doctor/therapist prescribed equipment.

History- Many patients who benefit from rehabilitation services are unable to meet their functional potential because they cannot afford their prescribed medical equipment or assistive devices. Often the equipment is not acquired in a timely manner or simply not obtained at all, and needs are not met.  Healthcare providers sometimes find themselves begging for dollars in the community in a piecemeal fashion for essential equipment for their patients.  Observing this need, and frustrated by the consequences for their patients, a group of concerned rehabilitation care providers in Roanoke, Virginia formed the Foundation for Rehabilitation Equipment and Endowment (FREE) in 1999.

What We Do

FREE gifts donated, gently used mobility related equipment and bathroom transfer aids to uninsured or under-insured adults who cannot afford the equipment they need or cannot obtain needed equipment in a timely manner through other resources.
