LINK is looking for a volunteer office assistant to help with light office work for our CANLINK program. 

Duties would consist of filing, typing, telephone work assisting case managers with admin paperwork.

Description: Unload food from vans/trucks.  Food is then weighed and sorted to produce, sweets, bread, meat and read-to-eat.  It is then bagged and distributed to clients.  Volunteers carry the food via wagons and help the clients load the food into the cars.  Start time is 10am and finishes at 1pm.  Volunteers commit to one day a week.  Volunteer will need to take the Food Handlers Course for Food Pantries.

The Richard F Clark HELP Clinic provides low cost dental healthcare to individuals in the Hampton community who are uninsured and have incomes at or below 300% of the Federal Poverty Level (a family with 2 children making less than $50,000/yr).

We are looking for dentists and dental hygienists who would be willing to give some time to help provide excellent oral healthcare to our patients. We are always working to expand the number of people we reach and always need more providers to help us keep our costs as low as possible! Please let us know if you'd be willing to share your expertise with those in need!

*Following approval for volunteering, you will be invited to a training/mentorship session at one of our programs with a staff member. After training has been completed (approximately 1 hour at an arts program), you will be approved to host any program on our calendar that you chose by letting us know via email.

KIDS' Night program is designed to give parents of children with special needs and their siblings a night of qualified childcare and a night of fun for the participants. In order for KIDS’ Night to be successful we rely on an army of generous volunteers and we are excited about your interest in volunteering for KIDS’ Night!

KIDS' Night’s are held one Saturday night a month from 4:30-9:30pm at the Williamsburg Indoor Sports Complex (WISC) for children ages 1-16.  Volunteers escort a group of children through the various activities at the WISC to include the Turf, FunZone, Playground and Big Gym.

For over 60 years, BBBS has been defending the potential of future leaders in the community by matching youth (Littles) with committed adult mentors (Bigs). These relationships – strategically matched based on Littles’ needs and Bigs’ backgrounds and skills, as well as common interests, aspirations, and personalities – empower Littles to achieve success in life and become productive members of the community.

After completing an orientation and interview, a volunteer Big is matched to a Little. Together, the match explores their shared interests by engaging with the community around them. Maybe you'll go bike riding, or hiking, or you'll explore new recipes together. Maybe you'll teach your Little to create a budget by doing groceries together, or maybe you'll share your love of animals by volunteering at an animal shelter. Each match is unique and we work to make strong, long-lasting, professionally supported matches.

Matches meet about 2-3 times per month, for at least one year. As a Big, you will work closely with your BBBS Match Support Specialist who is there to support you along your match.

BBBS will match Bigs and Littles in close proximity throughout Newport News, Hampton, Yorktown, Williamsburg and surrounding communities.

The Williamsburg Botanical Garden and Freedom Park Arboretum always needs volunteers for physical work in the Garden of course, but there are many opportunities for volunteers that don't involve digging in the soil!

These programs are designed for boys and girls grades one through twelve.  They offer character building classes with meaningful and fun activities.  Groups meet weekly from 5:30 - 7:00 pm, every Tuesday.  Our goal is to help build character and challenge our youth to commit their lives to God and offer exposure to projects/services to develop an understanding of Christian service to our community that will impact them and those around them.  A safety course (Safe From Harm) is all you need to equip you to volunteer.  Individuals with a love of music, arts, drama, dance who could possibly assist in these areas would be most helpful.  We will begin Tuesday, January 18, 2022 for the remainder of the school year.  Thank you so much, in advance!

At Home Care Hospice is looking for dedicated and compassionate volunteers to serve our patients and families. AT Home Care Hospice gives volunteers a unique opportunity to provide support to patients and grow as an individual, while working with those with a terminal diagnosis.

We're in need of volunteers interested in our Hospital Accompaniment (HA) program. As an HA advocate, volunteers act as on-call companions for domestic and sexual violence survivors that arrive at hospitals with which Avalon collaborates.

Position would require a time commitment for weekday/end shifts, and volunteers receive extensive training before shift assignment, as well as being subject to a background check. Shifts last anywhere from 16hrs on a week day to 24hrs on a weekend day and while the volunteer may not respond to a call for the entire 16/24hr shift duration, volunteers are expected to be available to respond to a call during their scheduled shift.

If you're looking for a way to safely make an impact on a local senior's life, we've got just the opportunity for you. We're currently in need of additional volunteer drivers to help transport seniors from their door to their medical appointments. Volunteering as a driver requires calling the senior beforehand to arrange a pick up time, showing up at their home at the arranged time, and safely transporting them to their appointment. While they are in their appointment, the driver will wait and then safely transport them home.

Transportation is provided with the safety and health of our seniors and volunteers in mind. Each person wears a mask for the duration of the ride and we ask that the senior sit in the backseat on the passenger side to maintain as much distance as possible. If there is a need for physical assistance helping the senior get in or out of the car, we do our best to make that known ahead of time. 

Whether you can commit one hour every other week or three hours per week, we'd love to have you. Thanks for you consideration, and please tag a friend who you think would be interested! Virtual training and mileage reimbursement is available.

A CASA is a professionally trained volunteer appointed by the Juvenile Court to advocate for the best interest of children who have been abused and/or neglected. By working alongside attorneys, social workers and other professionals, CASAs expedite permanency ensuring that children do not linger in the foster care system. Volunteers receive 30 hours of training in an effort to learn how to advocate for children within the foster care system.

We are looking for a compassionate person to "Tuck-In" our patients for the weekend. In doing this you will be calling and speaking with all of our patients or caregivers checking to make sure they have enough supplies and medications to get them through the weekend. These calls need to be made on Thursday mornings in order for us to have enough time to get the needs delivered to the patients on Friday.

Colonial National Historical Park is looking for a few volunteers to assist with the upkeep of our National Cemetery. Duties include grass cutting, weed eating, and general grounds keeping of the cemetery.

Volunteer committee members will work in conjunction with the Chapter Staff Partner in recruiting participants for The Longest Day Campaign. In addition to recruiting new participants, the Volunteer Committee is to be focused on raising revenue, increasing awareness and promoting the concept of The Longest Day Campaign.

The Longest Day is a signature event of the Alzheimer's Association. It provides growth and opportunity to the organization by : a) bringing new audiences to our cause, b) raising new revenue, c) engaging companies and associations in a new way, and d) allows people the flexibility to participate and fundraise in the way that works best for them.

The Alzheimer’s Association Early Stage programs are specialized educational and supportive programs for people recently diagnosed with early stage Alzheimer’s disease or another form of dementia and their care partner(s). In the role of Early-Stage Support Group Facilitator, individuals may be responsible for Support-Focused Groups for people living with the disease and care partners.

An Alzheimer’s Association support group is an open gathering of people with common problems, needs and interests who come together to share their feelings, thoughts and experiences in a combined effort to better cope with and manage the shared problems of dementia in a safe environment. The goal of the Alzheimer’s Association support groups is to provide emotional, social and/or educational support to group members. In the role of Caregiver Support Group Facilitator, individuals may be responsible for one or more of the following types of groups: General Caregiver, Adult Child, Spouse, Men, Language-specific, or other.

Individuals with marketing experience/background are sought to assist in promoting the Walk to End Alzheimer's on the Peninsula and in Williamsburg. Walk to End Alzheimer's is the Association's largest awareness-building and fundraising event, occurring in the fall (Newport News Oct. 20, Williamsburg Oct. 27). 

We’re seeking volunteers to engage in a variety of community programs and outreach initiatives throughout the year, including:  special events at summer outreach camps, YMCA Bright Beginnings back-to-school outreach program, YMCA Togetherhood projects and more. Just let us know how much time you’ve got and what’s in your heart – and we’ll help to make the match.

Volunteer to help teens become their best selves. You can lead them through skill building activities, assist with teen nights, or aid with fundraisers to help them attend our Blue Ridge Leaders Camp. There are so many ways to help shape the leaders of our future; they need you! Primarily after school and evening hours.

Help coach a team or be a Program Assistant with any YMCA Youth Sports programs.  No previous experience required.  Teams just can’t run without our coaches or assistants – so you can feel great about making a real difference! Hours are based on program times.

Help children ages 5-11 improve their reading skills; become a Y Reading Buddy! Time commitment is flexible; an hour a week, or an hour a year. You can read to children, or have them read aloud to you. Either way, you both win!

Give a senior a lift and lift their spirits at the same time. Provide transportation to doctor’s appointments or to the grocery store, pharmacy, bank and/or errands. Our program is called C.A.R.E.S. (Community Assistance and Resources for Seniors) We also provide Friendly Visitors, Telephone Reassurance, and Yard work.  You can choose the service area you are willing to serve and if you have email, a list of rides is sent out to you and you can choose which rides best fit your schedule.  Transportation would be for the Peninsula area, and the CCEVA office in Newport News would be the office you come to for orientation.  Please call us for an application 875-0060.

Alternatives, inc is seeking dedicated, service minded individuals who want to make a difference in the lives of young people in Hampton and Newport News.   As a PASS AmeriCorps member (Peninsula AmeriCorps Service and Support), you will work as part of a team to lead programs, teach skills, and build relationships with kids ages 5-12, or with middle and high school youth ages 13-18.  In exchange for their service, AmeriCorps members receive:

Volunteer museum docents for Jamestown Settlement and Yorktown Victory Center are currently needed seven day a week for the following shifts - 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. or 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. or 1 p.m. - 5 p.m.

Docents are responsible for:

- Leading outdoor orientation tours
- Assisting visitors and leading interactive activities in the special exhibit galleries; answering questions, and engaging visitors in the permanent museum gallery exhibits.
- Museum docents may also lead gallery tours or share exciting historical and museum information with visitors while manning an indoor hands-on learning station.

The Foundation offers a comprehensive staff training program that includes lectures, tours, demonstrations, and skills training that amply equip volunteer docents for any role they choose. Volunteer museum lobby greeters are currently needed at the Yorktown Victory Center for the following shifts - 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. or 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. or 1 p.m. - 5 p.m., especially Sunday.

The Visitor Services Concierge is responsible for:
-Welcoming visitors to the museum, directing them to ticketing and group check-in, and answering general questions regarding musuem programs, services, and ticket information
-Assisting with queue management and wayfinding for visitors
-Assisting Visitor Services Staff with providing scooters, wheelchairs, strollers, etc.
-Monitoring theater times and assisting visitors in and out of the theater
-Orienting visitors to the galleries and gift shops
-Other duties as assigned

Volunteer costumed interpreters are currently needed seven days a week at Jamestown Settlement or Yorktown Victory Center for the following shifts - 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. or 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. or 1 p.m. - 5 p.m.

-Greeting, orienting, and assisting visitors with information on scheduled demonstrations, tours, and on-going activities within the site

The Hampton Roads Community Development Corporation is looking for an intern or volunteer for its corporate offices.  Ideal candidate will be available 3 hours a day and be able to type, fax, file, answer telephones, handle scheduling and take phone messages.

The Hampton Roads Community Development Corporation is seeking motivated individuals to serve as a group mentor or a tutor for children in elementary and middle school.  Ideal individual will be able to undergo a background investigation, be available at least 6 hours per week and sign a one year commitment to the tutoring/mentoring program.  Training is provided on a monthly basis.

Will perform a variety of clerical and organizational tasks, including answering phones; scheduling appointments and meetings; photocopying and filing; ordering supplies; expense accounting; and creating and editing documents, spreadsheets and presentations.

Primary tasks focus around administrative detail associated with onboarding/processing new volunteers, alerting volunteers of opportunities to serve, tracking volunteer hours, and reporting involvement to stakeholders.

Logistical Support Team needed

In order to help build prepared, healthy, strong communities, the Peninsula MRC conducts a wide variety of events and activities in the Williamsburg, James City County, York County, Poquoson, Newport News, and Hampton areas.

The Peninsula MRC is seeking a volunteer or a team of volunteers specifically for logistical support of these events.

This position requires consummate logistical productivity skills, a knack for organization, a way with people and flexibility under a fluid changing environment and certain amount of pressure.

Volunteers must be able to lift and carry heavy objects, load and unload vehicles, set-up and breakdown events.  The primary equipment location is Peninsula MRC Headquarters in Newport News, however event sites will vary across Peninsula and Hampton.

A CASA IS…

1. An Investigator

As an investigator, it is the job of the CASA to elicit all the information about the child and the child’s family. This is done by interviewing all the parties to the case (DSS, G.A.L., the parents and/or guardian, the child if age permits, parents’ attorneys) and any secondary sources such as teachers/school personnel, therapists, and physicians that may have knowledge of the child’s situation. Once the investigation is completed, the CASA submits a written report to the Court, which includes objective recommendations based on the facts.

2. A Reporter

As a reporter, it is the job of the CASA to ensure that all of the facts are before the court. The facts are presented to the court in the form of a written report, which includes the factual information gathered through interviews and record reviews, an assessment of the child’s situation, and recommendations regarding placement and provision of services to the child and the child’s family.

3. A Monitor

As a monitor, it is the job of the CASA to monitor the family in terms of compliance with the court order. It is also important to monitor the various agencies involved to ensure that they are making a good faith effort in providing services in a timely fashion and are not the cause of unnecessary delays. The child must be monitored in terms of his/her environment and in terms of his/her educational, therapeutic, and medical needs. If non-compliance is discovered, the CASA contacts the CASA office, DSS, and the GAL.

4. An Advocate

The fourth and most important function of a CASA is that of an advocate. Most children have natural advocates – their parents. In child abuse/neglect cases, the CASA may be the only person who is, first and foremost, the child’s advocate. The CASA is the one person who can speak for the child and voice the child’s needs.

5. A Mandatory Reporter

The Code of Virginia names CASAs as mandatory reporters; and you are, therefore, required by law to report any case of suspected abuse or neglect. If during the course of your work as a CASA you have firsthand knowledge or suspicions that a child is being abused or neglected, you must report your concerns immediately to DSS and the CASA office.

Must be 25-years or older

The HomeMakers Program (HMP) Assistant’s  primary function is to assist the HomeMakers Coordinator and Social Workers with the house activities associated with daily operations of the NATASHA House, Inc. (NHI) HMP.  The position also requires strong skills in crisis counseling, client education, public speaking, and knowledge of service area resources.  Must have the ability to represent NHI and its HMP in a manner that increases recognition and support.  Moreover, this person will be responsible for the oversight of both the Life Coach & C.H.A.M.P.S. Mentoring Programs portion of the HMP.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor’s degree in a non-related field with at least 1 year experience in the field or Pursuing an Associates or Bachelor’s degree in Human Services, Social Work or a related field and at least 6 months experience in the field.

Assist staff in performing duties related to the publicity, awareness, and community  support/appreciation.  Generate press releases and publications for upcoming exhibits, events, fundraisers, performances, and programs.  Assist with direct mailing, electronic and social media and branding efforts and campaigns. 

Qualifications:   
Interns must be in their junior year of a college or universityseeking a degree in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing or Business Administration.

Experienced must posses a 2 or 4 year degree in one of the fields above or possess a minimum of 2 years experience in this or a related field.

The Volunteer Coordinator Assistant is responsible for assisting the Volunteer Coordinator with recruiting, scheduling, training, coordinating, and providing a comprehensive training program for volunteer staff to support NATASHA House programs, services and developing staff & volunteer support/appreciation activities.

Interns must be enrolled in a college or universityseeking a Certification, 2 or 4 year degree in Human Relations, Social Work, Child or Women’s Studies; Psychology, Counseling.

Experienced must posses a Certificate, or 2 or 4 year degree or possess a minimum of 2 years experience in one of the fields above.
