Give a senior a lift and lift their spirits at the same time. Provide transportation to doctor’s appointments or to the grocery store, pharmacy, bank and/or errands. Our program is called C.A.R.E.S. (Community Assistance and Resources for Seniors) We also provide Friendly Visitors, Telephone Reassurance, and Yard work.  You can choose the service area you are willing to serve and if you have email, a list of rides is sent out to you and you can choose which rides best fit your schedule.  Transportation would be for the Peninsula area, and the CCEVA office in Newport News would be the office you come to for orientation.  Please call us for an application 875-0060.

Alternatives, inc is seeking dedicated, service minded individuals who want to make a difference in the lives of young people in Hampton and Newport News.   As a PASS AmeriCorps member (Peninsula AmeriCorps Service and Support), you will work as part of a team to lead programs, teach skills, and build relationships with kids ages 5-12, or with middle and high school youth ages 13-18.  In exchange for their service, AmeriCorps members receive:

Volunteers are an integral part of our philosophy.  Hospice volunteers are there to hold a hand and listen, read or write a letter, run errands or help out in the office.  Volunteers are there to step in when a family member needs a break, and they are there for the family and friends after their loved one has passed away.  No matter what you skills, talents or motivation, we have the opportunity for you to help.  Volunteers receive training appropriate to each volunteer position.  Orientation and training are scheduled to fit your busy schedule.  Volunteers can chose where, when and how they share their time, talents and heart.

Volunteer museum docents for Jamestown Settlement and Yorktown Victory Center are currently needed seven day a week for the following shifts - 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. or 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. or 1 p.m. - 5 p.m.

Docents are responsible for:

- Leading outdoor orientation tours
- Assisting visitors and leading interactive activities in the special exhibit galleries; answering questions, and engaging visitors in the permanent museum gallery exhibits.
- Museum docents may also lead gallery tours or share exciting historical and museum information with visitors while manning an indoor hands-on learning station.

The Foundation offers a comprehensive staff training program that includes lectures, tours, demonstrations, and skills training that amply equip volunteer docents for any role they choose. The Visitor Services Concierge is responsible for:
-Welcoming visitors to the museum, directing them to ticketing and group check-in, and answering general questions regarding musuem programs, services, and ticket information
-Assisting with queue management and wayfinding for visitors
-Assisting Visitor Services Staff with providing scooters, wheelchairs, strollers, etc.
-Monitoring theater times and assisting visitors in and out of the theater
-Orienting visitors to the galleries and gift shops
-Other duties as assigned

Volunteer costumed interpreters are currently needed seven days a week at Jamestown Settlement or Yorktown Victory Center for the following shifts - 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. or 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. or 1 p.m. - 5 p.m.

The costumed interpreter is responsible for:
-Greeting, orienting, and assisting visitors with information on scheduled demonstrations, tours, and on-going activities within the site
-Presenting and/or assisting with hands-on activities appropriate to site as trained
-Maintain tools, equipment, reproduction objects and costume as instructed
-Work in costume or professional dress as appropriate to assigned duties
-Other duties as assigned

The Hampton Roads Community Development Corporation is looking for an intern or volunteer for its corporate offices.  Ideal candidate will be available 3 hours a day and be able to type, fax, file, answer telephones, handle scheduling and take phone messages.

The Hampton Roads Community Development Corporation is seeking motivated individuals to serve as a group mentor or a tutor for children in elementary and middle school.  Ideal individual will be able to undergo a background investigation, be available at least 6 hours per week and sign a one year commitment to the tutoring/mentoring program.  Training is provided on a monthly basis. 

Perform duties of a hygienist

A variety of non-licensed positions. Experience preferred with one or all programs; Microsoft Word, electronic medical records and various data bases. Also, good interpersonal skills when interacting with our patients in person or on the phone.  

At least 2 years of and experience with Chronic disease preferable, and ability to use electronic medical records. 

Fill prescriptions, council patients and supervise technicians. 

Primary Care and Specialists 

General Dentist, focusing primarily on restorative treatment and extractions. 

Assist dentist, and x-ray certification preferred. One year experience and bilingual desired. 

Special Events Help us with special events and promotions that benefit Make–A-Wish ® Greater Virginia. Plan, organize, and implement successful fundraising events by working on committees, helping out on event day, and /or participating in the event.

Fundraising Assist our development team in seeking in-kind donations, write grant and/or sponsorship proposals, collaborate to build partnerships with local companies, conduct research on local companies giving campaign, organize a frequent flier donation campaign, sell paper Make-A-Wish stars, or plan/organize an external event to benefit Make-A-Wish.

Speaker’s Bureau Increase awareness and support of Make-A-Wish by speaking at venues around the state. This may include helping at informational tables, attending check presentations, formal speaking engagements and more. Training is required.

This hands-on experience helps kids to see first-hand how they can impact another kid’s life by helping grant his or her wish.

Wishmakers on Campus is a program designed for schools to give their students the opportunity to raise funds to grant the wishes of our local children with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope, strength and joy.

The Peninsula MRC is seeking a volunteer specifically for administrative help who can commit to consistent hours to help cover administrative tasks in their headquarters office in Newport News.

This position requires consummate office-productivity skills, a knack for organization, a way with people and flexibility under a fluid changing environment and certain amount of pressure.

Will perform a variety of clerical and organizational tasks, including answering phones; scheduling appointments and meetings; photocopying and filing; ordering supplies; expense accounting; and creating and editing documents, spreadsheets and presentations.

Primary tasks focus around administrative detail associated with onboarding/processing new volunteers, alerting volunteers of opportunities to serve, tracking volunteer hours, and reporting involvement to stakeholders.

Requires:
Consistent hours on a schedule that you set (Monday through Thursday, daytime)

Logistical Support Team needed

In order to help build prepared, healthy, strong communities, the Peninsula MRC conducts a wide variety of events and activities in the Williamsburg, James City County, York County, Poquoson, Newport News, and Hampton areas.

The Peninsula MRC is seeking a volunteer or a team of volunteers specifically for logistical support of these events.

This position requires consummate logistical productivity skills, a knack for organization, a way with people and flexibility under a fluid changing environment and certain amount of pressure.

Volunteers must be able to lift and carry heavy objects, load and unload vehicles, set-up and breakdown events.  The primary equipment location is Peninsula MRC Headquarters in Newport News, however event sites will vary across Peninsula and Hampton.

Requires:

Availability prior to and following events on a rotation basis (with enough volunteers)

A CASA IS…

1. An Investigator

As an investigator, it is the job of the CASA to elicit all the information about the child and the child’s family. This is done by interviewing all the parties to the case (DSS, G.A.L., the parents and/or guardian, the child if age permits, parents’ attorneys) and any secondary sources such as teachers/school personnel, therapists, and physicians that may have knowledge of the child’s situation. Once the investigation is completed, the CASA submits a written report to the Court, which includes objective recommendations based on the facts.

2. A Reporter

As a reporter, it is the job of the CASA to ensure that all of the facts are before the court. The facts are presented to the court in the form of a written report, which includes the factual information gathered through interviews and record reviews, an assessment of the child’s situation, and recommendations regarding placement and provision of services to the child and the child’s family.

3. A Monitor

As a monitor, it is the job of the CASA to monitor the family in terms of compliance with the court order. It is also important to monitor the various agencies involved to ensure that they are making a good faith effort in providing services in a timely fashion and are not the cause of unnecessary delays. The child must be monitored in terms of his/her environment and in terms of his/her educational, therapeutic, and medical needs. If non-compliance is discovered, the CASA contacts the CASA office, DSS, and the GAL.

4. An Advocate

The fourth and most important function of a CASA is that of an advocate. Most children have natural advocates – their parents. In child abuse/neglect cases, the CASA may be the only person who is, first and foremost, the child’s advocate. The CASA is the one person who can speak for the child and voice the child’s needs.

5. A Mandatory Reporter

The Code of Virginia names CASAs as mandatory reporters; and you are, therefore, required by law to report any case of suspected abuse or neglect. If during the course of your work as a CASA you have firsthand knowledge or suspicions that a child is being abused or neglected, you must report your concerns immediately to DSS and the CASA office.

Must be 25-years or older

The HomeMakers Program (HMP) Assistant’s  primary function is to assist the HomeMakers Coordinator and Social Workers with the house activities associated with daily operations of the NATASHA House, Inc. (NHI) HMP.  The position also requires strong skills in crisis counseling, client education, public speaking, and knowledge of service area resources.  Must have the ability to represent NHI and its HMP in a manner that increases recognition and support.  Moreover, this person will be responsible for the oversight of both the Life Coach & C.H.A.M.P.S. Mentoring Programs portion of the HMP.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor’s degree in a non-related field with at least 1 year experience in the field or Pursuing an Associates or Bachelor’s degree in Human Services, Social Work or a related field and at least 6 months experience in the field.

Assist staff in performing duties related to the publicity, awareness, and community  support/appreciation.  Generate press releases and publications for upcoming exhibits, events, fundraisers, performances, and programs.  Assist with direct mailing, electronic and social media and branding efforts and campaigns. 

Qualifications:   
Interns must be in their junior year of a college or universityseeking a degree in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing or Business Administration.

Experienced must posses a 2 or 4 year degree in one of the fields above or possess a minimum of 2 years experience in this or a related field.

The Volunteer Coordinator Assistant is responsible for assisting the Volunteer Coordinator with recruiting, scheduling, training, coordinating, and providing a comprehensive training program for volunteer staff to support NATASHA House programs, services and developing staff & volunteer support/appreciation activities.

Interns must be enrolled in a college or universityseeking a Certification, 2 or 4 year degree in Human Relations, Social Work, Child or Women’s Studies; Psychology, Counseling.

Experienced must posses a Certificate, or 2 or 4 year degree or possess a minimum of 2 years experience in one of the fields above.
