Volunteer: PORT Winter Shelter

Purpose: LINK of Hampton Roads is seeking groups of volunteers for our PORT Winter Shelter. The shelter runs from November through March.

 Job Title: PORT Shelter Volunteer

Location: The Port Shelter Volunteers will work at rotating church locations in the Newport News area.

Key Responsibilities: The Port Shelter Volunteer Group will assist guests with checking in. They will assist the churches on an as needed basis for duties such as cleaning or cooking meals for the guests. 

Reports to: The PORT Shelter Manager, the Executive Director and the Church Site Manager 

Time Commitment: 2 - 4 hours per night ideally. Hours may vary by site. Shelter is open 7 days a week. Unlimited hours available

Qualifications: Volunteers must be able to move freely and without assistance. May be required to move chairs, tables. Must be 18+ and able to handle working with persons with mental illness, physical disabilities and possible substance abuse. 

Support Provided: Deputies and nurses on site for full duration of shelter. Experienced church volunteers, intake workers and social services workers on site.
