Who We Are

The Peninsula Medical Reserve Corps(MRC)

The Peninsula MRC unit’s mission is to augment and assist existing community operations during large-scale emergencies, aid in the response to pressing health care needs, and improve community emergency preparedness.

You do not need to be a licensed medical professional to join the MRC.

What We Do

In the wake of the September 11, 2001 attacks, thousands of Americans responded by volunteering their skills and talents to assist the community.  Many more Americans asked, “What can I do to help?”.

Freedom Corps Umbrealla

In 2002, President George W. Bush created the USA Freedom Corps to help Americans answer his call to service and to foster a culture of service, citizenship, and responsibility.

The Medical Reserve Corps program is sponsored by the Office of the Surgeon General, in cooperation with the White House’s USA Freedom Corps, and the Department of the Homeland Security’s Citizen Corps.

The purpose of the MRC unit is to:

  • Recruit health care professional and support volunteers
  • Create a framework to match volunteers’ skills with the communities needs
  • Train volunteers to respond better to the needs of individual communities thereby enhancing local emergency response efforts
  • Provide reserve capacity at the community level to respond to local health needs and priorities
