Who We Are
Since 2004 Tidewater Arts Outreach (TAO) has been sharing the joy and healing power of the arts with under-served people in seven Hampton Roads cities. Tidewater Arts Outreach matches artists with opportunities to share their talents with people in long-term care, crisis care, and dependent care settings. Our compassionate and creative artists offer approximately 75 hands on arts experiences each month for people with special needs who are isolated from society. Luckily, we all don’t need to be artists to get involved or make a difference.
Volunteers are a vital part of Tidewater Arts Outreach. Our volunteers and interns help to increase the impact of donor contributions and staff hours, enabling us to provide more advocacy and training opportunities and bring more music and arts activities to those in our community who deserve and need it most.
One great way to be involved is as a TAO Program Host, which involves attending our programs and engaging with participants. For visual arts programs, you’ll help distribute supplies and paint or draw. For music programs, you may sing, shake an instrument, and/or sway to the music. Through your caring presence, you will help people in your community take full advantage of our vital arts opportunity. TAO Program Hosts have a creative spirit and outgoing demeanor. Our program calendar is uploaded the first of each month to TAO’s website.
TAO also has other volunteer opportunities (marketing, admin, database support), both in our office in Ghent and virtually. Please take a look at these job descriptions for more details on how you can help.
