Description

The Laundry and Shower Monitor is responsible for coordinating, monitoring, and maintaining the day center's shower and laundry services for individuals experiencing homelessness. This position provides respectful customer service, ensures a clean and safe environment, manages service schedules, monitors equipment, and supports participants in accessing basic hygiene services with dignity and respect.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Coordinate client access to shower and laundry facilities.
  • Distribute hygiene supplies, towels, detergent, and other items.
  • Monitor laundry equipment to ensure proper operation and timely completion of wash and dry cycles.
  • Clean and sanitize shower rooms, laundry facilities, and common areas according to agency health and safety standards.
  • Restock towels, toiletries, and cleaning supplies as needed.
  • Report equipment malfunctions, maintenance concerns, and supply shortages promptly.
  • Enforce facility policies and procedures while treating all participants with professionalism and respect.
  • Assist in maintaining a welcoming, trauma-informed, and culturally responsive environment.
  • De-escalate conflicts and notify supervisory staff when assistance is needed.
  • Maintain client confidentiality in accordance with agency policies.
  • Collaborate with case managers and other staff to support participant needs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Experience working with individuals experiencing homelessness or other vulnerable populations is preferred.
  • Strong customer service and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain professional boundaries while providing compassionate service.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Basic recordkeeping and organizational skills.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds and perform light cleaning duties.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, and perform repetitive tasks throughout the workday.

  • Understanding of trauma-informed care and person-centered services.
  • Ability to communicate respectfully with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
  • Knowledge of infection control, sanitation, and workplace safety practices.
  • Strong time management and organizational skills.

Working Conditions

  • Indoor work environment with frequent interaction with program participants.
  • Exposure to cleaning chemicals, laundry equipment, and bodily fluids consistent with hygiene services.
